Travel Survey
Your proposals for encouraging cycling will almost certainly involve your organisation spending money. Your case will therefore be strengthened enormously if you can produce a few hard facts that support your proposals and show them to be good value.
For example, do you know how many people currently cycle to work? Do you know how many bike parking places you have? How many people live within easy cycling distance of your workplace? How many people would give cycling a try if conditions were improved? What sorts of improvements are needed?
Gather this information by carrying out a travel survey. A handful of cycling enthusiasts can conduct a survey simply by circulating a printed questionnaire or e-mailing an electronic version. It may not reach everyone in the workforce but it will still yield plenty of useful data.
Alternatively, your organisation may wish to carry out a more far-reaching survey, perhaps by sending a questionnaire out with the pay slips. Such a survey would reach everyone. It may be useful to link the survey to a prize draw to ensure a good completion and return rate. A widespread survey like this might address transport issues as a whole rather than focussing solely on cycling.
